The Capel Way Trail consists of two loops. The Island Loop is 2.5km long and The Glen Loop is 6km long.
Seabirds can make their nests in safety on the cliffs and ledges of Knockadoon Head. Knockadoon Head is at the eastern end of the Knockadoon Peninsula. It is at the tip of one of the Old Red Sandstone ridges that form the south-west of Ireland; Capel Island is an offshore outcrop of this rock. It is home to, about 50 pairs of Cormorants in summer and to smaller numbers of Herring Gulls, Great Black-backed Gulls and Fulmars. Other birds living on the cliffs include Choughs, Ravens and Peregrine Falcons.
You can often see sea mammals swimming offshore, most commonly the Grey Seal, though sometimes whales and dolphins pass by.
Stunning views are to be found all around the peninsula.
The Knockadoon Peninsula is rich with history.
